NYU-Poly Game Innovation Lab Presents: Kickstarter Stories

Wondering why Alex is so quiet these last few days? That is because he and the gang are currently in New York at NYU-Poly speaking on a panel about the Kickstarter process.

Using A New Funding Model for Game Development
Need funding for a game project? Seeking funding from the masses through Kickstarter is one way to go. Recently, a well-known game developer raised over 3 million dollars for a project using the website. Our panel discussion includes three recently funded developers working at small and larger scale, as well as Cindy Au, Kickstarter's Community Director, and Wade Tinney, IGDA-NYC Chapter Coordinator and CEO of Large Animal Games. Panelists will discuss the pros and cons and process of raising funding through Kickstarter for their projects, and how it compares with using the traditional publisher model.
Don't worry, they will be back soon!

Ooh, that sounds really interesting. There's a big Kickstarter hype going on now, which The Banner Saga thankfully took advantage of. I can only hope it (and sites like it) keep on growing even as the hype dies down. Given the Saga's success, Stoic seems very qualified to speak on the subject.

very cool, hopefully we can get a vidoe or text of what they said.
you're indifferent to suffering, insensitive to joy. All of life is reduced to the common rubble of banality. War, murder, death are all the same to you as bottles of beer. The daily business of life is a corrupt comedy. You even shatter the sensations of time and space into split-seconds and instant replays. You are madness, Diana, virulent madness, and everything you touch dies with you. Well, not me. Not while I can still feel pleasure and pain and love.

Word. The whole idea behind crowdfunding is absolutly great. Finally there's a way to bypass the publishers and allow deveolpers to reach their audience directly. The announcement-video of Wasteland 2 puts it in a nutshell.

It's hidden in plain sight; who would think to break into a building that looks like all the others?
