Hey guys, because of the sheer brilliance and epic-ness of the background information we have been provided on what is going on around Strand, I wanted to compile it all in one place for everyone to enjoy. So, here’s a written record of what has been released (if anyone notices anything incorrectly heard or can fill in one of the few blanks I have, let me know and I will update!).

If you havn't seen this before guys be sure to check it out, definately a great indication of how Factions was not an "accident" and moreso the beginning of a out-of-game epic story

If you have not watched this on high definition setting do so now and prepare to be absolutely blown away by the visuals

[Older Varl]: The gods are dead. This is not the probem. The problem is that everyone knows it. So the question then becomes: to whom do you call out in times of need? When the sun stops in the sky... and your homes turn to ash. Your foes return from myth... and your children ask, who will save you? What will you say?

I think that you do not call out, but you join your hands together so you are not lost. And you carry your names on your shoulders, where all may see. And upon that banner, you write down your deeds, so you cannot forget. And one way or another... you go on.

Tutorial YouTube Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dJT8Dkj5Nw) Thanks for posting Balnoisi!

[Unnamed Varl or human]: It has been several long months on the road. The first signs of snowfall have crossed us on the roads to Strand, largest of the trade cities on the Varl-human borders and our last collection before returning to the capital. Several days ago the sun simply came to a stop in the sky. Though during these long winter days, none of us can be certain how long it has been this way. Some of the men in the caravan have taken it as a dire omen, I am not quick to superstition, but I myself will be glad to be done with this year’s rounds.

We have been warned by stranded travelers about brigands on the path to Ridgehorn, our road home. Our captain seems unconcerned. Perhaps he is as eager as I to be done here. We will rest here this day, and inquire further when we speak to the governor.

fight breaks out between the Varl that just burst into the Great Hall and several armed humans that appear to have created a disturbance here. Varl emerge victorious!

[Governor]: Like a rabid wolf that one… how did it come to this? We fool ourselves believing that peace will last. My grandfather built all this from a poor fishing village you know. He watched the gods die, watched the chaos that followed, watched man and Varl slaughter each other – even before the Dredge arose. All we’ve done is traded one struggle for another. Now that there is no more Dredge to war against, we war against ourselves. This chieftan meant to kill me, and he’s not the first. A dozen families in the city would gladly take my chair. This one had men waylaying merchants both north and south of the city, strangling trade right well I would add, though he denied it to his last. This sort of wolf does not stop biting because the head is cut off, it just grows a new head.

I’m in a bad way my friend, help me finish this fight and I’ll gladly send you on your way with double our king’s tithe. Take any men you need, they’re loyal, I promise you that.

[woman outside the city of Strand reading a letter]: My precious wife, he writes. Leave the city. We fight now to death instead of yield… besieged our streets and markets. Even within the walls you are no longer safe. The giants do not rally to us the way they’ve been to the governor, but our ranks have grown thick. He believes we are only rabble. And we are no rabble, we fight with courage. But as his men fall in the streets, ours grow stronger. Though we have strength… but more importantly we have skill.

And you should hear the confidence in their voices. You see my love, all your worry is misplaced. We go to claim the governor’s seat as you read this. When his faint hearted reign is over, I will meet you… joy bursting from my chest.

[Govenor]… Like a rabid wolf that one, how did it come to this? We fool ourselves believing that peace will last. My grandfather built all this from a poor fishing village you know…

I’m making this post to reserve this space for potential future content, but also to comment:

The narrator’s accents are absolutely beautiful, but can be quite difficult to understand (Stoic we need subtitles in upcoming content!). The first time I watched the launch trailer there was so much language I didn’t understand that I didn’t even know it was descirbing the same event as the tutorial! Hopefully this thread will help people come to appreciate this epic masterpiece as much as I have.

though he denied it to his (lads?). This sort of wolf does not stop biting because the head is cut off, it just grows a new head.Quite certain this is "denied it to his last".

Iím in a bad way my friend, help me finish this fight and Iíll gladly send you on your way with (the polar?) kingís tithe. Take any men you need, theyíre loyal, I promise you that. Not 100% but I think he says "with double our king's tithe" here.

I'm sure you have "rally" and "faint-hearted" right, but I have no idea what they say where you "beneath"... sounds like beneath to me too, though that doesn't make much sense.

Thanks Erom - appropriate changes have been made. It hit me as I was editing this (I havn't been back to listen), but I bet she is saying that they "besieged our streets and markets"!!!

At some point I want to go through and gnab the script for the kickstarter update [EDIT: in my head I was thinking of the launch trailer here], as there probably might be a little bit of lore hiding in there as well. It's funny, even in the absense of the epic score, the words are quite moving for both these videos. And this is a mere taste of the story the saga will bring!

just wanted to say:

awesome job ;) ty for spending ur time so that the rest of us can have a easier way around. The narrator
accent can be indeed a bit hard to understand from time to time, also as mentioned already, subtitles in
future content would be very much apreciated!

Even within the woods you are no longer safe.

That should be "Even within the walls", not "woods".

Consider it updated - thanks for the catch!
