We all know it's fun to duke it out in The Banner Saga: Factions, but I provoke the question (or Malice it perhaps?): where is the most fun place to duke it out? YOU MUST CHOOSE! Which of the existing battle boards is your favorite? Perhaps it's simply looks, perhaps it's some strategic element, but feel free to use this opportunity to let the world know which epic fighting location is Faction's favorite!

The beach is definitely the map most soaked in my enemies' blood.

I also like it because its more flavored than the PGs/Wall/Mead (it has the four posts, ideal for BM cover!), but not as the "fork-tongued" great-hall... Damn that fire pit!

I love the proving ground. Seeing the other people training off in the side and the other effects on that map are awesome. The size is great too.

Great Hall! For the dancing bear and unique plays the fire pit unlocks.

Wall is still my favorite. It's plain, small and beautiful without any fluff.

I'm stunned that the great hall is leading, I had the impression the majority of players hated that map.

There should be a caption for voting Great Hall..."cos some players just want to watch units burn" :D

I like the Proving ground because it's quite nice to see the archers shooting while you're waiting for the game to load, and it's also quite short so everyone is close to the fray and can help their mates any time! :)

Beach is the best tactical-wise map around cause of those posts. Great Hall offers a lot of that, but it's too damn tight and either it's a half-map battle or a burden trying to line up from opposite corners.

The Wall is still an interesting one, though it's curious how my perception of it changed after half a year playing it and other maps coming - it is now feeling much shorter than it felt before.

Proving ground has the nicest scenery with all the archers and ppl practicing. The wall is cleanest, I hate the Great Hall the most lol

I wonder why no one has voted for the Mead Hall.

Didn't vote for the Mead Hall because it feels like most of my losses happen there. I do think it looks great though. As for The Beach, I was pretty surprised the first time a BB used his special to run right through a post and eat up one of my archers. In the end I voted for the Great Hall, because almost every match I've had there has a different dynamic. It's pretty fun.

I like the beach for the subtle change in positioning it forces. Great hall while frustrating is better than the straight up slug fest the wall forces.

The Mead Hall has nice environment and interesting deployment zone, but I tired to play on this map.
The Wall is most extreme map: clear field, close range, but nothing special.
The Great Hall really interesting map, it is always pleasure to play on it. Bear rocks!
The Proving Grounds has coolest features: training archers, raider and Smith. Also two obstacles sometimes help archer to win end game.
I am voted for The Beach, because
«Narwhals, Narwhals swimmin' in the ocean
Pretty big and pretty wide they'd beat a polar bear in a fight!»
I am kidding. Obstacles make this map deep in point of moving and positioning.

Some interesting data collected while working on getting all the maps to my little app:
- Beach - 16x14 tiles, 4 limiters (1x1), 16x4 starting locations, 16x6 tiles no-mans land.
- Mead House - 14x16 tiles, 2 limiters (3x3), 14x5 starting locations, 14x6 tiles no-mans land.
- Wall - 14x16 tiles, no limiters, 14x6 starting locations, 14x4 tiles no-mans land.
- Great Hall - 14x16 tiles, 2 limiters (4x2 boxes with 2x1 on top), fire pit (1x6 6 tiles room on the left, 7 tiles room on the right), 14x5 starting locations, 14x6 tiles no-mans land.
- Proving Grounds - 16x16 tiles, 2 limiters (1x1), 16x5 starting locations, 16x6 tiles no-mans land.

Proving Grounds is the biggest, Great Hall smallest (even before the fire pit).
Wall has the shortest possible starting distance of 4 (warriors and raiders can cross it without willpower), compared to 6 on the others (You need to step back 2 tiles to be completely out of first turn melee reach).
Wall allows most room for pregame maneuvers, while Mead House and Great Hall least.

You're right SO; it can be really useful having it set out clearly, so that people can lay out their strategies and not wait for the map to show up and then decide. Of course, deployment also depends greatly on the opponent's build & initiative order...

Yeah, the overhead views with the black tiles Rensei has made would be great, too. It would be even better if red and blue tiles were marked for the deployment areas. That way, much of the info she listed above would be implicit.

In case you don't know, Rensei's posting new versions of the tool over here: http://stoicstudio.com/forum/showthread.php?1502-Applet-for-displaying-Topview-of-a-match-snapshot-A-plea/page4 Snapshots can be taken using one of the buttons now, I think.

The wiki's a wiki :) you can edit, but you'll need to make a free account first.

Yeah, the Great Hall's a bit of a marmite map - generally players either love it or hate it. (Though I'm sure a few don't care much either way). In any case, it provokes a lot of strong reactions.

Personally I vote for Great Hall, though I quite like Mead Hall as well. I don't much care for the Beach, and I got caught out a bit by the Proving Grounds, when it was first added, due to the short length, so there are some painful memories there.
