Stoic is pleased to announce that we have partnered with Curse Gaming (http://www.curse.com/) to host our official Banner Saga Wiki! Special thanks to Guğmundr for migrating content from existing wikis into the new Curse wiki, and for adapting and improving the layout to work well with Curse.

Check out the announcement on Curse's site:

We will be expanding the wiki as Factions evolves, and with all new content as Chapter 1 becomes available. Please check it out, and feel free to contribute!

Good going. I'm sure TBS will make it to a larger public under the effects of this... curse! :p

PS -- Can someone pillage those ad-banners?

Those adds are sadly part of the deal - the only way to fight them is to add so much content, that they will disappear in the sea of useful information. Look at what Skyrim Wiki did.

But yeah - they are a massive discouragement right from the start.

Too true, I guess :(... At least if something can be arranged about the relevance (i.e. advertise similar games, not online grocery shopping) and/or the color/themes involved? Gudmundr said (http://stoicstudio.com/forum/showthread.php?977-help-filling-out-a-reference-wiki&p=21331&viewfull=1#post21331) he would try to see with Stoic if something can be done about the ads, but I'm not very optimistic about it.

If you are not using adblock... well, stop everything until you install it. It transforms the internet into something useful and palatable :)

:) Thanks John, this works just fine for gamepedia! I'll have to keep an eye out for useful stuff potentially blocked, but I guess the chances of missing something actually important are slim. It leaves some awkwardly blank white spaces, but that's as fine as one can wish for in such situations, right?

I'm sure your Curse partners (and, more likely, their "other" partners, and so on), will not be too happy about you promoting the use of such software, but hey, what do we care? :p

Hey wait, Curse wouldn't be happy to hear you advocating blocking their ads :P

On Chrome, I just disable flash objects by default (using built-in browser functionality). And the site looks pretty good that way. All the links to elsewhere within curse only appear below the bottom of the page.

If anyone working on the gamepedia finds something on the wikidot useful (cropped images, text, whatever), they can go ahead and use it, of course; that's how public wikis work.

I think you might want to set a max width on the site (like you see here on stoicstudio.com). I find it harder to read normal-sized text on lines over like 1000px wide, but don't like downsizing my browser window on a per-site basis.

As I mentioned in chat, I started to work on wiki. Hope more people will join and wiki will be full with information about Chapter 1.

Awesome Kuba; thanks! :) I'll try to chip in however I can.

I've seen things starting to change there. Do you know who else is currently working over there? We could split up the tasks to make it faster...

What mostly bugs me is how to make the difference between Saga & Factions clear. The biggest problem is that some Saga-characters have varied stats for the same class (e.g. Hogun/Mogun or Gunnulf/Bersi/Sigbjorn etc), so you should not directly "link" them with the respective Factions class. For example, Onef does not start with the stats of the rank-1 Backbiter... In the wikidot site, this was easily alleviated by putting the ability-description (i.e. Run-Through) in a different page, and then "appending" it (with the [include] command available in wikidot, but not in gamepedia) into the Backbiter page... So, my suggestion is that we keep the present structure for Factions; for the Saga, we just copy-paste the existing abilities (and write the new ones), and also place the base/max-stats for each character (not class!), into their respective pages. We could also include the portrait & isometric-unit for each one, along with the "flavor" text from the Heroes description.

Thank you very much for your work, Kuba and Aleo! Unfortunately, I haven't had much free time to edit the wiki, so you guys working on it is a big help.

Aleo: I have seen some other users on wiki, but I do not know who they are here. Their names are VaultAusir, ‎SeattleWhispers and Z3ther. Only familiar name is Netnazgul. I agree with you on Saga unit. They should be kept separately from Factions classes.

I have been made admin on wiki, now I can change frontpage too. Got to think about it, how to best distinct differences between Factions and Saga. Meanwhile I will keep creating new pages :).

I don't think you'll need to copy-paste stuff. It looks like "includes" are doable on gamepedia, too:

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Embed_page

For reference, the gamepedia site is built on Mediawiki, so most documentation about Mediawiki or Wikipedia functionality should apply here:

http://bannersaga.gamepedia.com/Banner_Saga_Wiki:About

One wikidot feature that I like is the ability to list pages and include pieces of pages. Probably this is possible after an extension is installed onto the Banner Saga gamepedia wiki server:

EDIT: What is up with the sorting of the "News & Updates" forum? I only chanced upon this thread when it was listed as the "last post"; when I actually open the subforum, it is nowhere on the first page, and can only be summoned by clicking the "last post by" column twice. Grr

Thanks wiki-wizard frank :) Needs some practicing to make this work right, due to all those slight differences in markup languages, but it certainly seems doable.

Yeah, it happens to me too. Seems like the default sorting of the threads is something completely weird, like "date when thread opened" (and not "date of last post"). This makes some sense since only Mods/Admins can start threads here, right? Anyway, please address this!

To those managing the wiki:

There are 22 playable characters in-game, not 21, you left Gronnulf out of the list :/

Other than that, good job so far, keep it up!

They are 24. + The great character of Valgard and then Eyvind and Nid. - Ubin in a way. This is taken directly from stoicstudio.com who hadnt finished updating all of the characters.

In the advertisement they say more than 25. Then probably Juno and Ubin (and possibly Vognir) are counted. Even though not playable, they are in your caravan so.

Yup nearly (raidmaster from strand), there are rumors that he was introduced to this fight just to reintroduce him in later installments as a hugely important character.

Thanks for a feedback :). If you see something wrong or missing on wiki, feel free to edit or add it. That's a point of wiki :).

I looked into this, a bit, thanks to the links franknarf provided. It looks like those capabilities are a bit limited in the MediaWiki platform. Specifically, you need to include special tags when creating the "remote" pages (e.g. <noinclude> / <includeonly> / <onlyinclude> ), so that you can later "include" the desired content when creating another page by using a simple syntax like {{:RemotePage}}.

I'll now look into the possibility of including (and, more importantly, listing) specific pieces of pages...

I don't know if the "overhead" is worth it, as the content for TBS/F is not so much and the majority is already up there. But, it could be useful for the future.
