Fans of the Banner Saga know how much beautiful artwork can help immerse us in a story. There's a recently launched Kickstarter adventure game called Candle whose animation and images are all hand-painted using watercolor and ink.

Teku Studios, a new developer based in Spain, has drawn upon Mayan and Aztec influences as well as African folk art to create the look of the game. It strikes me as a more vibrant and organic Machinarium.

The main character in Candle is Teku, a little masked doll with candles for hands. Much of the gameplay and puzzle-solving involves the interplay of darkness and light.

There's still a few early backer slots left, which means you can back the project and get a copy of the game for just $10!

I just discovered this kickstarter myself, and was about to post a thread here. Thanks for beating me to it :-)

@anevilyak -- No worries. It was nice for me to be first for once!

Whoa. Candle got a huge jump in pledges this weekend! They're within $3k of reaching their goal, with three days left. A few extra backers could help this game get funded.

Heeey, you're DThrasher from the Double Fine forums, aren't you?

Whoa. Candle got a huge jump in pledges this weekend!

Am I interpreting the Kickstarter page's comments right, that it was actually all one single very generous $10,000 donor? :D

BTW, Candle is currently on Kickstater's Popular This Week for game projects. Good job.

Judging by Kicktraq, most of the weekend jump was definitely due to one generous donor. But setting aside the massive $10k pledge, it was still third best day ever on the Candle campaign. I think once folks saw that the goal was easily reachable, a lot of people that had been sitting on the fence jumped in.

The number of new backers was also respectable -- especially for a weekend. Here's the breakdown, if you're interested: http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/spaniardmike/candle-a-dynamic-graphic-adventure/#chart-daily

I'm just happy that the Candle team is going to make it now. We might even reach a stretch goal or two.

Candle met its funding goals! They've already crossed off two stretch goals and are trying to reach the third. Today is the last day of the Kickstarter campaign:

Good to hear they made it. It isn't really my type of game, but it surely is a cute one, with a very interesting art concept. It kinda reminds me of machinarium

Also, I'm happy to see developers from Eurozone PIGS countries coming "in the game".
