Stoic's comments about the Centaurs having a Celtic feel to them, and the look of Icelandic Ponies, got several ideas bouncing around my head. This is the first one I've managed to sketch out. I call her a Warprancer.

A nice Warprancer, gaevlin! Thanks for sharing ;)

Some remarks: Her left hand clutching the hilt of the sheathed short-sword seems to be in an awkward position. Also, the body proportions (arms, legs, head, human/horse-torso) seem a little "off"; is that intentional?

Thanks for the comments... I hope to post up another shortly.

I guess it's intentional :) Nothing really looks off to me when I look at it, but that could just be me. I admit, the sword draw is a bit awkward, but I tried other poses and none of them looked quiets as dynamic... and I did take a reference picture of myself in that position, so I know you don't need to be a contortionist to manage it :)

As for the proportions, I did want the human part to be larger than the "traditional" version of a centaur... I think it works as a visual cue that the rest of the body is in the pony rather than horse scale.

BTW, are you seeing an image in my opening post? I'm only getting a little "?"

Thats why I included the link.

No, I don't a picture, just the link. If you tried adding it with the "Insert Image" button, make sure you (1) choose "From URL" and copy/paste the link as it is and (2) un-check the "Retrieve remote..." checkbox, cuz it kinda shrinks the picture and its not use if you've already uploaded it somewhere on the net.

About my remarks -- Indeed, I forgot the horse-body was from a pony and not some massive stallion! As for the pose, it does go well with the traditional "interweaving" patterns of nordic & celtic art ;)

That centaur is spot on! You did a great job giving it the shaggy pony feel that Stoic has described they were looking at! I can't wait to see how these creatures fit into the Banner Saga's story! Great image!

Huh... I get the choose from URL when I use the "Insert Image" button, but I don't see a checkbox for "Retrieve remote..."

Tried it in both Safari and Firefox... which are the only browsers I have.

Weird. Here's what the pop-up window looks at my browser (Firefox in Windows 7).

PS -- OK, you're right. Something must be broken indeed. I've place an image in this post, above this text, that evidently doesn't show (the link to the image (https://www.dropbox.com/s/tbp47j2232wb3th/TBSF_ForumInsertImage.png)), and I am pretty sure that's just the way I did it before. Perhaps we should report it to Stoic.

Thanks Aleo... I started a thread on the Support Forum to see what's going on...

In the meantime, I'll just put a link to the next one right here.

As I was doing research on Icelandic Horses, one of the most interesting things I found visually was how some varieties had contrasting colors between their body and their mane & tail; like bay or black bodies with white or creme (pale blond) tail and mane. I really wanted to portray that sort of coloration in one of these, and this one, the Charger, seemed like a good fit. Especially since I wanted to show off a Celtic-style beaten bronze shield and "horned" helmet as well.

Looks great, thanks! :) I like the intricate patterns on the spear-head, and the similar tattoos on his human-torso. The color-matching of this hair with the tail (and the free-flowing feel of the hair in general) is also great. I am not sure about the shield-shape (seems like this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scutum_%28shield%29)?); I'd expect something round...

Are you planning color version of these two? What's with the hollow eyes?

I absolutely love the centaur you have drawn up Gaelvin. It is going to be interesting to see how they fit into the low Fantasy feel Stoic has imparted. What's even more interesting is that the game feels strongly low fantasy, and there are giant horned dudes running around bashing things :) I'm excited for everything to come, but especially for the addition of these pony-people to the Saga! Nice picks Gaelvin - definitely keep em coming!

Alright... solved the image upload issue. And how! They're a lot bigger than I thought they'd be :D

Actually, I was going for something like this for the shield... I might even refine the image to have more of the spiral-work on it, too.

As for the eyes, mostly its just that these are fairly rough sketches, so I didn't go into that detail, but I also wanted them to be a bit horse-like, in that there really isn't much of the whites to be seen.

Wow, fancy! Seems like a ceremonial shield; the gold-smith that did this would hate a Warmaster's axe planted in the midst of that one! :p Thanks for your points on the eye-coloring too.
