I am on my second play through of the game and I am curious about how we players are to prepare for the sequel game. It will hopefully take into account many of the choices that we made in this game. But this game does not seem to store multiple saves, as in if I beat it 3 times in 3 separate ways would I be able to load all of those into the next game? If that is not in place is there a reason for it? I really hope I that I have simply skipped over a feature that is already there.

i believe there's a sav_finale.save.json file created as a saved game in the last moments of the gameplay. just copy that one ( it's paired with a .png ) and the resume.save just in case, to a safe folder and that's it. you can store as many of those as you want.

Yeah having slots for different playthroughs should be a must if they want our savegames to matter in the sequels. And I'll be very disappointed if our choices don't really matter for the sequels and if there are no failure states for choices we made throughout the 3 chapters/episodes.

Where are the save games located?

I'm also wondering what stats will be remain in the next game. For example, clansman, supply and renown. Party members will change a lot through, so it's not worth to level up them. Lost all the fighters in my third playthrough.

Has an actual dev said anything about this yet? I realise that it may be too early to say at this stage, but it would definitely be nice for our choices to have repercussions into the next game! (Even if it's just who we chose for the silver arrow at the end...)

If your choices carried over it would create a ton of work on their end to provide story for all of those variables. I figured that they wrote the story and that when part two comes out you find out what decisions are canon. It isn't impossible to keep certain party members alive, but when talking about the story I am sure that they were meant to die.

I posted my predictions below (In white font) as to who I think is dead/alive after TBS: Part One.
Dead
Rook - Bellower. Hopefully he "returns" to Alette as Juno suggests.
Egil - Mutiny
Onef - Mutiny
Fasolt - Einartoft: Only survive if you fight two days, attempt to destroy the bridge then surrender to the Varl. His survival could even be a glitch.

Limbo - Dead or Deserted?
Hogun - Mutiny
Eirik - May be sent back to Strand in Chapter One. I can see this as canon. He returns home with his tail between his legs.

Limbo - Alive?
Yrsa - Chapter Three forest fire. She disappears in the flames.
Gunnulf - Gold Cart. Only one choice has him surviving, but I see that as canon.
Krumr - Boersgard defense or leaving Einartoft without any actions. I hope he survives the wall in Boersgard. He is a fantastic character.
Mogun - The twins can both die in Frostvellr during the riot, but I think Hogun is supposed to die in the Mutiny. Makes sense to keep one Thrasher.
Ekkill - Multiple chances of death from conversations. It still makes sense that he survives. He has a lot of insight into the caravan.
Oddleif - Mutiny. Her survival is dependent on Hogun/Mogun or Egil being present. I have to think that in the canon story one of the three are there.

Alive
Alette
Iver
Tryggvi
Hakon
Mogr
Griss
Bersi
Ludin

While it would be cool to have your choices carry over I have to think that the story is already written and if anything we could see a few options on a starting roster. Basically a multiple choice prompt asking you about your decisions on some of the major plot points.

What was your move in Einartoft?
How did you enter Frostvellr?
How many days did you defend Boersgard?

Don't think there's going to be a questionnaire if they're making save points when you finish the game. More likely an import from part 1 to 2 like in Baldur's Gate.

As for my predictions: I'll turn my reply in white as well.
Honestly, Eirik going back to Strand option is probably an insightful choice, seeing as though you can send both the merchants (brother of the five-ring necklace) and the king's treasure (with varl escorts) to Strand. Thinking Eirik would be a good candidate to make sure your stuff and varl are well taken care of. I'm anticipating that at some point you return to Strand.
As for your first four for sure deads: Rook, Egil, Onef, Fasolt. I agree with.

But if Egil dies in the mutiny, then both twin brothers are spared. At least that's how it plays out for me.
Think Krumr dies at the gates of Boersgard. It seems fitting to me.
Yrsa, might have deserted at the forest... but her dying? Seems off seeing that that's Ludin's squeeze. Or that's how the relationship comes off as to me.
I can see both Hakon and Gunnulf trying to save the cart. Seems a bit odd if Hakon let goes and Gunnulf doesn't. Kinda see Gunnulf living. But he's a side character. Probably won't play an important role at all (seeing as though he CAN die).

Other than that, I agree with what you said thus far, assuming they choose to take a canon only approach. You forgot Eyvind though. Not that he was in much question to begin with. Just thought I toss that in.

Sorry I didn't mean that Yrsa died in the flames but that she 'disappears' as in deserted. I forgot to move her when I split the limbo section.

I dunno. I can certainly see why they would likely set Egil's death as canon, but here's what I'd much rather see...

After working so hard to keep him alive, I think it would be kind of great if they just kept him going for the next two games. He doesn't need to have a lot of story tied into him, so it isn't much more scripting to do (and he already has all his animations and play balancing). What if he was just as easy to get killed in the next games, and then - only as a little bonus to the players who'd been going since the beginning - give him some huge, awesome hero moment in the finale of game three. It could be a minor moment for the story, but a big cheering moment for long-time Egil supporters!

I'm hoping for a direct transition from import. I don't suspect that having a character around would be much trouble. Not sure if they can tie a story event with every possible character, but definitely should give you a conversation bubble in camp, maybe even a minor event/quest non-related to the story.

Ludin might warrant a more in-depth alternative path related to the second game seeing as we're going to Arberrang and he can potentially be dead before then.

There's a possible scenario where the chieftain doesn't die after leaving Skorg. Does he die later? Or anything? I'm in chapter 6 and I haven't seen or heard about the bastard since.

Wonder if much of their time on the first game was spent on AI scripting and battle mechanics, or was it already provided by an engine.

Spoiler:

Huh, I didn't lose either of the thrasher twins in the mutiny - just Egil (and Onef of course). Did other people lose one of the thrashers? I must have talked mine around.

As others have said, since the assets for each party member are already complete, and since the game doesn't have voice acting, I'd think it much more possible to do a complete save import than in other, mostly larger games that attempt the same thing. Only the final choice may be an issue, but only in that a lot of dialogue could potentially have to change.

That said, I have no idea how videogames even work, so it could still be a fair amount of work for a 3 person team, but it's not nearly as bad an issue as other games.

Carrying your choices and surviving characters over to the next chapters seemed to be a big feature of the Saga. I believe, it should not be a huge problem, most characters don't have that many conversations after all.
The biggest factor is the question, if Alette or Rook survive in the ending. Would be quite some work to have two possibilities of main characters for both chapters 2 & 3, while probably > 80% of the players had Rook take the Silver Arrow.

Good question.
Spoiler:
Even I want Alette to lead the caravan. She's too young to lead such a large group. It's just like why Odd refused to be. Iver is a natural leader for Varl. Who will lead the caravan in the future?

I believe it is on the road to Boersgard when (paraphrasing),

Ekkill talks to Rook about how Alette is even more important to the caravan than he is. His point was that while Rook is getting them to Boersgard, it was Alette that was keeping them alive. She kept spirits high, listened to people's problems and tended to wounds.

Oddleif's chance at leadership was before anyone had proven themselves. By the time they reach Boersgard (according to Ekkill) Alette was an inspirational figure.

Regarding Egil: It would be awesome to have an achievement for keeping him throughout part three. I doubt it would be canon though. If he lives through part one that means you never recruit Onef, Ekkill and the mutiny never happens. Personally I think the mutiny is a pivotal part of the story and game.

Fingers crossed Egil is at least replaced by a Shieldmaiden Raidmaster.

Who says the sequel will follow any of these characters? The next game could easily be set in an entirely different region that is only hearing about some of these events third-hand.

That is true. The horseborn lands are a good example. Though, it would be quite an upset for many players to see the focus taken away from our current group.

If that's the case, Stoic have to rework on new sprites for animations. Do we have the patience to wait? I can wait if they wrote a great plot for it.

The trilogy is called the banner saga, so I'm pretty sure it revolves around the red banner from Skogr (Rook and Alette). But instead of Hakon's varl-army there might be another caravan that joins up with the main-party during the second game and which we play during the next game. (maybe fugitives from an overrun/besieged Strand or just people from another village.)

Guys, please stop this white-letters thing! :D We've all finished the game a couple of times already, so... no need to hide Spoilers.

Now, on a previous topic: I lost one of the Thrasher brothers (I think the family-man, not the scarred womanizer) while trying to force my caravan through the short-but-Dredge-infested road in Chapter 6...

I was thinking that this is the most probable scenario, myself. You might meet or hear about some of those characters in the future games, but from a different POV. Some key characters (in a worldly-scope), like Ludin/Hakon/Eyvind/Juno are sure to re-appear either as NPCs or even playable. Most of the Part1-crew, will already be the stuff of legend, or you might come upon a crazy drunk Varl (Sibjorn), a solemn widow (Oddleif) or a sour two-times veteran (Iver)

Besides, there's also the question of level/rank. It's not likely that rank-cap will increase past 5, so how could you bring along already maxed-out characters from previous installments? There's a balance issue here...

It needs to be balanced. It could be like this: we get few stat points to bring back the character we knew. Rank 2 character brings you 1 stat point, and Rank 4 gives you two points. It could be a minimum bonus.
