View Full Version : MAC Steam Overlay not working

10-07-2016, 05:45 AM

The problem is as described in the title (MAC): I launch the game (BSF), go to the marketplace and get the message that Steam Overlay seems to be disabled. It's not of course. This for I cannot use the marketplace, nor the overall Steam Overlay.

-I have reinstalled Steam.
-I have reinstalled BSF.
-I have updated the latest Flash and I have hardware acceleration on.
-I (obviously) have Steam Overlay checkbox ticked on from the Steam settings as well as the games own properties.
-I have Steam checkbox ticked on from System Preferences -> Security & Privacy (the app is allowed to control the computer).
-I have tried turning the previously mentioned on and off again with Steam running and not.

I have now surfed the web for around 2 hours trying to fix the problem but nothing so far seems to work.

If someone has any info on the problem, or new tips, please do share

Hello there,

Unfortunately, this seems to be a consistent problem with this game (Factions) and the Steam Overlay, as seen in the "Known Issues" section in the latest build thread (http://stoicstudio.com/forum/showthread.php?1790-Build-1-10-51) (dating back to June 2013).

Seeing that support for this game is practically not existent, it seems like you'll have to make do without the Marketplace and the Overlay :( Some of the items offered in the (in-game) Marketplace can also be purchased as Steam DLCs (http://store.steampowered.com/app/219340). You're most likely looking to buy Renown, so that won't help you much, I fear...

Thanks for the quick reply, that'll have to do then :)

Completely off topic: I'm new to the game (except for TBS 1&2), are the servers consistently empty? Seems to be very hard to find a match.

Alas, the playerbase is ever declining: http://steamcharts.com/app/219340#1m =/ The best times to get a match are Europe evenings (when Russian players are online) and generally weekends. Best thing to do is "call out" to arrange matches from the global/Strand chat. Alternatively, you can enter the Quick-Match queue and browse the internet while waiting for the Horn to sound (meaning that an opponent has been found). But, in any case, it will require patience, especially at first when you can only make one "team power" (e.g. p1 or p2, meaning that you have only 1 or 2 rank-1 units, and all the rest are rank-0).

Renown is typically earned for "free" by playing (and winning) matches. I think it takes about 20 matches at 50% win-ratio to get a power-6 team (six rank-1 units). I recommend you try to hire more units so as to expand the team-powers you can cover, to more easily find quick matches.

gl hf! (good luck have fun) :)
