Well I thought that I would create a thread about what music people are listening too, I listen to alot of music in work while programming or testing, so I thought it would be interesting to see what other people are listening too, I find alot of new music that way... okay, well, I will start :D

Feeder - Generation Freakshow (songs of note: Hey Johnny and Sunrise)

Found that this album is Feeder combining its old and new style I didnt really like renegades that much to be honest, but this album is great :D

The album 'Passerine Myth vol. 1' by Pierce Cailan. It's kind of a relaxing indie-folk type thing. Really good to revise to. Best of all, the artist has made it available available free from here (http://beta.projectrodney.com/piercecailan), (if you do a Facebook thing you can promptly delete).

Currently listening to the Hindu Love Gods self titled album, if you like blues it is a good album to check out and if you like R.E.M and Warren Zevon that is a another good reason to check it because that is who the band is.

I'm currently on a Duke Special spree that's about to turn into a Divine Comedy marathon. Specific song = Our Love Goes Deeper Than This (Duke Special/Neil Hannon collab... the Duke Special/Tim Minchin collab is muy nice too).

I absolutely love all these "sharing" threads! A lot of the bands mentioned have either jogged my memory or made me go on really fun/rewarding treks through YouTube's musical jungle.

Oh man, I always feel epicly uncool with regards to my music tastes. I've been on a 80s/90s country music kick lately, specifically female singers. A lot of Reba McEntire and Pam Tillis.

On a slightly less dorky note, I'm excited that Tegan and Sara are currently recording a new album, and I've been expressing that by listening to Sainthood and Get Along.

I terrorize my office sometimes because I listen to such a wide collection of music. For example, in the mornings I generally use my "Rock of Ages (http://www.pandora.com/station/558013069006375216)" playlist (Nazareth, Blue Oyster Cult, Jefferson Airplane, Kansas, etc), the afternoon is my "Forsaken (http://www.pandora.com/station/284981237790443824)" radio (A Perfect Circle, Helmet, Fireflight, Korn, Die So Fluid, Deftones, etc) to my rock station (Confrontation (http://www.pandora.com/station/396224992450611504) - Korn, Metallica, Slipknot, Otep, Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch, etc)... I pretty much have stations for most things (http://www.pandora.com/profile/ashentemper) except Country.

I'm quite the John Denver fan, myself. I can't say I know many female country singers, though, so I'll be sure to explore the those two!

Edit: Sean, for those unfortunate enough to live in the barren wastelands of Europe, do you know a good way to get around the country restriction on Pandora? I used to use it a lot, but nowadays I need a proxy to connect, and that causes a painfully slow connection which drops after pretty much every song.

haha! The funniest thing about that station is I made it when I was the CM for TOR at BioWare... I posted so many lolcats (internally) that someone said I should make that my station name. If you actually listen to it, it's not so much LOLcats Happy Fun Time...

Well my current Writing playlist has: The Piano Guys, Rammstein, Disturbed, Iron Maiden, Rootwater, Heidevolk, Amon Amarth, Bonnie Tyler, Muse, and Queens of the Stone Age to name most of them. My normal playlist has a bunch more lol. Right now I'm constantly listening to Heidevolk because I just picked it up a couple days ago, and it's nearly perfect Viking music.

Faraway (Apocalyptica) by Cello Akademie

Lindsey Stirling 'Crystallize'

Other than that, it really depends on what I feel like listening to. Stuff I like include Angela Aki (got most of her albums), Taylor Swift (only recently lol), Apocalyptica, stuff by Two Steps From Hell/Thomas Bergersen, various game soundtracks (the Witcher series, DA:O, Uncharted series, etc.), military marches, etc.

I also recommend Rosanne Cash (Johnny's daughter), and Bonnie Raitt as excellent 80s/90s country ladies. Of course I also tend to think that good country stopped production in 1999, so that's a factor of my taste to keep in mind.

Just listened to that and you've convinced me. For a My Little Pony song that's pretty badass. Though my tastes in villain songs generally run more towards this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6hAbh_3RiU) or this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujzp9ffPwPM). And my playlist is usually on endless shuffle with genres ranging from German metal to country to Vietnamese choirs so it's always an experience. Currently I've had Fairytale (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtj3k_thBE4) stuck in my head for about a month so I thought I'd share the pain for those of you who didn't follow Eurovision 2009.

To be fair I only have a couple German metal songs out of about 6000, I just like to throw it in there because it sounds cool. And I too have much classical, though I'm a little short on Irish folk music at the moment.

And is this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTJi5ImbB7g) the Viking metal someone mentioned earlier, because apparently I already have that too. Sorry for the terrible video quality.

Right now, like in a current second ? Hidden Orchestra - Tired and Awake (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEksTapzBgg). Really great band in my opinion, i think they do an awesome job at mixing classical/instrumental stuff with modern drums and effects. Also they've got two drummers !

I listen to all sorts of music. Although acoustic & indie/folk music are on top of that list at the moment. Something along those lines, i guess ...

Damien Rice - Coconut skins (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKld_QNKH_U)
Darren Korb – Build That Wall (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8cELTdtw6U)
Bill Callahan - Drover (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DTA-l9Pxvg)
Eddie Vedder – Guaranteed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mA-Xn2Dx-s)

Also tried to find something viking-ish in my playlist. Well... Madder Mortem - Hangman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cznbCLxJEw&feature=related ). I don't know, to me it feels like she's screaming though blizzard somewhere on top of a mountain. (second part of the song)

Wow, this thread really blew up in a single day's time. I'll have to take a day to browse through it all.

Lately I've been embracing my love for the rare genre of electroswing. Or rather, any genre crossed with swing.

Anyway, here's some random electroswing stuff.
Caravan Palace - Brotherswing (http://youtu.be/Lvgy60wHoAg)
Parov Stelar - Chambermaid Swing (http://youtu.be/JRtHYiWmsoA)
Parov Stelar - Charleston Butterfly (http://youtu.be/h19zkv_TuXY)
Koop - Forces Darling (http://youtu.be/Zhmy09mC620)

And here's some random tracks as they come up in my massive favorites playlist. Don't expect any sort of genre synonymy or any other linking factors. Shit's all over the place.

The Answer - Shining Highway (http://youtu.be/RbMQ1BBcZfo) (this is the entire AC Tribute Album, but song 5 is the one in question)
Shiina Ringo - Love is Blind (http://youtu.be/K23cfyL0i10) (amazingly diverse artist, so glad she came up on so I could share her)
Daisuke Ishiwatari - Holy Orders (Be Just or Be Dead) (http://youtu.be/rGetImTgyFA) (guilty gear metal)
Emotional Joystick - Eight (http://youtu.be/piiGyn4dn7s) (haunting melody + drum & bass)
Frank Sinatra - Bad, Bad Leroy Brown (http://youtu.be/gdZtOvUBGcw) (love the classics)
Innocent Key - Touhou Sweets (http://youtu.be/kPilJCvwKok) (i-it's not like I particularly care for Touhou or anything)
Ed Alleyne Johnson - Orange (http://youtu.be/YlHDNyQOU_4) (loopers are fucking cool - see Reggie Watts too)
Darren Korb - Setting Sail, Coming Home (http://youtu.be/GDflVhOpS4E) (big Bastion fan)
E Nomine - Der Turm (http://youtu.be/vH5t-x74Hrc) (german religious electronic ...yeah, I dunno)
Maho ft Koyuki - Moon on the Water (http://youtu.be/HfZ56z8QqFE) (oh man, such an emotional song from the anime BECK)

Wanted to change my habits so I loaded every single anime OSTs on the disk. 56 hours reached for a 1050 tracks, still 3150 tracks to go.
It helps not having to choose the day's music and lets me do some clean up of what is not listened to.

Before that for a whole week was Journey's OST for a whole week.

Where did you even find that much music, Troll? I hear people talking about their huge, humongous, multiple-gigabyte playlists all the time. My "Music" folder contains 153 files worth 624 MB, most of which I don't listen to very often anyway. I have trouble imagining where I'd even find 3150 music tracks, let alone 3150 music tracks I like. How do you do it?

I don't know about Troll but I at least kinda just collected mine over a lot of years. I still buy CDs and soundtracks, I borrow them off my family and friends and I download songs directly. Which is how I ended up with almost 7000 songs (33.94 GB) on my i-tunes. I admit I don't recognize every song instantly, but I'm constantly weeding out ones I don't like so most of those 6000+ I actually do enjoy. But it helps that I have very eclectic tastes in music so I can pull from many different genres.

It mostly comes from music available on a website which is a Japanese media oriented .torrent share site.
I use it to acquire anime OSTs that are not available in my country as the law is quite lax (for the moment) on this kind of unavailable items when it is not due to some kind of censorship or other problems. It is the same for fansubbed anime.
Had I enough money I'd try to acquire most of them the correct way if I could.

As it is a possibly problematic post I'll let the moderators do what is best with it.

When I find a song I like from someone's recommendation or anything else, I get the full discography and just listen through the entire thing, putting anything I like into a favorites playlist. It ends up getting pretty massive, since I don't have any particular genre loyalty.

Listening to the same small collection of songs repeatedly isn't very fun when you're listening to music for the majority of your waking hours.

Its quite doable with some types. I can't do it with most songs with electric instruments, but I sometimes listen all day's) long to a single album of orchestrated songs, or ambient and slow tempo.

BTW, anyone here has a good audio memory ?
One of those first examples I have would be when reading the Harry Potter series while listening to Metallica's Black Album. I can visualize some pages when I listen to it again.
Very helpful for exams, I just had to remember a few songs I listened to while preparign them and memories of hte lessons were much clearer.

Just to ratchet up the viking stereotype music, I've found myself pretty heavily into (primarily Finnish/Swedish) folk metal. The music is incredible, but it annoys me to no end when one of my friends takes a listen and can't get behind it because of the harsh vocals. hey, at last some display of good taste ;) i like the War on Drugs sound a lot. even if they pretty much play the same one song on every release, but it's a song i really like.

you might also enjoy this guy Kurt Vile who used to be a member of the band and his music sometimes sounds a little like the "songwriter" version of TWoD.

The War on Drugs seems like a pleasant mixture of Bob Dylan, Dire Straits, Wilco, and Don Henley, with a garnish of Bruce Springsteen, polished and presented for the enjoyment of the 21st century. Love it.

Maybe I do like this song even more: Baderech El Hayam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avFyxFaj1xU) Not so much the singing part though...

I've got Dylan going now.... but someone mentioned Viking music above...

Try Tyr. Metal from the Faroe Islands... about as real Viking as I have heard.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0I1geB7U5VI&feature=relmfu

Thanks for turning me on onto these guys. Great stuff! I was just listening to the Blood album by In this Moment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwDKjNurbZM and thought that the Comanche song (starts at 35:50) would be great to play Factions battles to. Other music I love love is anything The Mars Volta, Circle Takes the Square (As the roots undo), and for falling in love, Joanna Newsom (Y's).

Just love this song. It's actually a Traditional Turkish song and you can hear it in Crusader Campaign of Medieval II Total War.
