View Full Version : No healing ????

So there are no healers, no self healing, no potions, nothing at all to heal in combat ?

I miss those.

No and this is a deliberate thing. If you could heal, it would just make the matches longer and more boring, because mistakes could be more easily corrected. It's also going along with the low-magic setting.

There will be Menders, who are something like mystics/wizards, who obviously have some healing capabilities, but those seem to be too complicated to be used during a battle. Maybe they can give short-term strength buffs or something like that.

The one time we see a Mender in gameplay footage, they're calling down some kind of attack magic on Dredge, so it may very well be that healing in combat is impossible even for Menders; it all depends whether or not the magic we see is a basic attack or a special move.

Flickerdart I must be honest, that lightning ability in the video was there because we thought it would look cool. Most menders do not wield that kind of power, nor do they want to. By and large Menders mend, build, correct. Not tear down...least they're not supposed to. ;)

By and large, eh? Renegade anti-menders confirmed for Banner Saga, you heard it here first.

Ahem. Anyway, it's more likely that menders will be able to repair armour than heal strength damage.

Exactly my thought :D
And here we have the Banner Saga's Dark Arts (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheDarkArts) with the according Dark sorceress (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LadyOfBlackMagic) as questionable party-member? I'm sure, you guys create a great conflict-situation out of this, if it really gets into the SP campaign.

Anyway, it's more likely that menders will be able to repair armour than heal strength damage.

Yeah, you are probably right about that. Though as Menders might have the same 4-advanced unit variety as other base-classes, there might be both options.

What if the healer could only heal 1-2 points to someone adjacent to it (like the Warleader) ? That wouldn't add too much to the length of the matches. And making healers very weak, would create a cost / benefit penalty that would make their use something good only on certain situations.

I think healing should stay away from games with small numbers. You would be surprised how just adding 1-2 str to a unit can make a huge difference in the long run.
