SUBMISSIONS OPEN FROM JANUARY 30TH – FEBRUARY 16TH.

THE GOAL

Stoic is looking to hire an artist for a full time position. We’re opening up the search world-wide hoping to find someone who can match the style of The Banner Saga.

THE TEST

*Artists retain all rights to submitted art
1. Please take the sample_rough.jpg and make it into a completed, finished product. The goal is to make this piece look exactly like an in-game piece in The Banner Saga game. It should fit seamlessly into the world style. https://www.dropbox.com/s/gxabb4cjyi...rough.jpg?dl=0
2. All art should be done in Photoshop.
3.Make sure there are 9 layers/folders in the .psd. They are, from front to back:

THE ART

The sample_rough.jpg is only there as a basic guide! Don’t think you have to put this tree exactly here or that building exactly there. We supply it only as flavor to get the creative juices flowing and also as a guide to the size dimensions we’d like the piece rendered in > 7646 x 1162
The sample_close_travel.psd is here to show you what a finished piece in the game should look like. Only use it for level of detail we’re hoping for. Do not think you need to use the same color palette.
THE REFERENCE

There is lots of reference on the internet for the art of The Banner Saga, please look at lots of it to give yourself a leg-up on what I’m hoping for.
Check out Eyvind Earle’s work in the reference images below to help you get inspired. The current look of The Banner Saga is the target, but Eyvind Earl’s work is the inspiration. Find more on the internet!

THE WORLD

If you’ve played the game you’ll know it’s a ‘low fantasy’ nordic setting. We’re dealing with nordic culture and, although it’s rendered in a graphic style, must be “believable”.

THE BREAKDOWN

1. Global entries welcome!
2. Work from the comfort of your own home.
3. The position would be as a full time artist.
4. We’ll negotiate exact terms of the contract with people who pass this initial test phase.

oh wow! loveboof i connected to all three of these that you shared not only do you have the skill of playing the guitar, but you communicated to me through your music the depth of your soul . . . i really appreciate you letting me experience this gift that you possess! i rested in your music, no tension, just a soaring, floating place that does not exist outside of music imo. I like the second one the most. Based on these three compositions, I would be interested in hearing a Banner Saga-inspired composition from you. Any chance of that happening? You have a wonderful talent!

I play some guitar as well, but am really amateur, nothing compared to you. Here's a rough take on the main-theme, using my electric Your acoustic sound is much better suited to the atmosphere of the game; I am sure you can do sweet things there!

Sounds cool What's your setup?

Thanks I know it ain't much, but I think that I got the notes right, at least! I meant to elaborate that theme, perform it better, add some rhythm/chords in the background, make a more decent recording... But, never did it!

I have this Epiphone Les Paul electric and a Roland Cube 30 amp, which was modelling the Fender "Tweed" sound (according to the setting ). I also have an entry level Yamaha acoustic.

Well, I submitted an entry for this test. I'm not sure what my chances are... It is far from a finished piece, since I have a full-time job and not a lot of free time to work on it. And the art in the game has a phenomenal amount of detail. I couldn't come close in the time I had to work on it. Oh well, it's certainly worth taking the chance for a dream job!

Good luck to you gaelvin, and to any other participant ! Just like yours, my entry is hardly finished, but it was worth for the trip through Eyvind Earl and Arnie's art alone.

And good luck to you too, Skitnik. I agree... just doing the research into Eyvind Earle's art was worth the time. And regardless of how things turn out, I may just continue to plug away at my painting if only so that I can present it as fan art one day.
