Thread: Animals in the Saga

    Animals in the Saga

Since this game is Low fantasy I assueme for the most part there will be normal Earth animals(with some exception as even Conan has the occasional Raptor or Sabertooth), since this is also heavily inspired by Norse myth I assume it will have normal Northeren Eureopean wildlife, yes?

Then why in the name of Ratatosk's acorn storage is there a freaking polar bear and Narwhal(THAT POOR POOR NARWHAL) in the bloody maps?! Those are both North American animals not Icelandic. I assume it was for fun and awesomeness as the king of strand having a pet Polar Bear in the Great Hall is an awesome Idea and I support It.

HAHAHAHAHAH! You guys probably thought this was an elitist complaint thread judging by the first two pargraphs, gotcha.

Seriously since this game shows two decidedly non-Nordic animals in the background what animals do you think should appear in the main game? I mainly want Walrus's, the desire came to me just a few days ago, I was literally thinking "Hmm what could go with all this Icey stuff" and then it hit me... WALRUS'S! I don't care if this game has Walrus-men(think of the duck men in King of Dragon Pass),Walrus Steeds, Giant Walrus enemys, or just a Walrus emblems I want a Walrus to appear somewhere. Yes it's silly, but so are giant's with cow horns, demonic Teutonic Order Knights, and Pony Centaurs. And besides what's the last game with Walrus's? Beyond Good and Evil? The third Penny Arcade RPG? Skyrim?

Polar Bears are present on the island of Svalbard (at the very least) which is part of Norway, so they're very much within the scope of possibility of this game, no clue about Narwhals...

Narwhales are quite common around Greenland, which was also temporarily settled and named by icelandic vikings (for marketing reasons, apparently ).

Hrm, I really want some elks, maybe even Elk-riders.

Aside from that, I'd like to see some sea monsters aka the Kraken!

Eleks are cool and while I want Sea Monsters I didn't mention them as I was afraid people would think I was trying to "raise the fantasy level" so to speak.

Also to everyone pointing out the nordic polarbears and narwhals

so yeah, both animals could be found in real history viking seas. as for the kraken .. well, giant squids are less of a fantasy than ponycentaurs !

Thanks you guys for correcting me about the polar bears and the narwhal. I also looked on wikipedia and found out Walrus's are in Nordic countries in fact here's a medieval drawin of one around Scandinavia.

Oh man, that narwall is such a nice touch to the art of that map...

But yeah, animals, why not... maybe some timed mission to hunt them for resources, or a predator attack against women and children in the back of the caravan...

Before I read this thread I posted in jest in the the game chat only yesterday that no self-respecting Viking game could be complete without a giant walrus monster!

Nice to see another Walrus fan is on board. And if we can have Varls which are essentially bigger scarier humans surely that leaves scope for a Walrus equivalent. Bring on the Varlic Walrus. Coo Coo Ca Choo!
