Meet Iver

By |November 26th, 2013|

Iver is a varl who has a friendship with Rook and helps out in the land of men quite often.

When Skogr was still young, Iver wandered into the town’s center, startling the settlers from Rundwall who had rarely seen a varl before. He’s never said why he left varl lands to help men build a small town, but each chieftain in Skogr’s family line is happy to have him. He’s known Rook since the man was young, and the two formed a fast kinship.

Raiders

By |November 25th, 2013|

Raiders represent the fierce up close and personnel type of fighter, the sort of man who fights for a living. He is your quintessential viking.

Taking cues from historical combat, Raiders can huddle together to form shield walls, improving their own defenses as well as those of their allies. Put multiple raiders together in the same formation and this defensive bonus becomes even more significant.

Each specialty fills a diverse variety of roles. While all Raiders are highly mobile, the Backbiter takes this to the next level by getting behind enemy lines to wreak havoc while the Thrasher can deliver a [...]

Varl

By |November 22nd, 2013|

Within The Banner Saga players will encounter a myriad of characters as well as some unique races such as the varl. Long ago the gods created these horned giants by weaving together humans with powerful and sturdy creatures called yox. Varl are large in stature and while given due respect as brutish warriors on the battlefield are also known as highly intelligent tacticians and savvy traders.

In The Banner Saga, varl can currently either be of the Shieldbanger tree or the Warrior tree meaning they prefer to be up close and personal while in combat. You’ll also notice throughout the [...]

Meet Oddleif

Since then, Alette spends most of her time with her father, unimpressed by the traditional roles of other girls in town. She hopes to become a hunter like her father, and in her spare time she practices archery with Oddleif, the wife of Skogr’s chieftain, who has become a motherly figure to her. The Last Part of The Banner Saga Let’s Play!

By |September 18th, 2013|

Greetings backers, we have for you the final installment of The Banner Saga demo. In this one we throw a fight to show off a feature we haven’t talked about much…

This playthrough represents a small fraction of the full game (it didn’t even include travel!). Hopefully it gave you a good idea of the kind of decisions and gameplay you’ll see at major locations along the way and just how varied your story can be.

Next time we’ll be back to more in-depth content updates as usual. Hope you’ve enjoyed the demo and see you next time!

By |September 11th, 2013|

Ready to see the result of your decisions? Thanks for your patience! We’re still working on getting the website back on its feet, but we’re going to keep the demo going. After this I expect there will be one more video.

A quick report: we’re making ridiculous progress on the game. All the major cities in the game are done. We’ve got items up and working (many of which are submissions from backers), and we’re starting to get final music in as well. Austin will be doing a music update in the near future. At this point the majority of [...]
